Wondering about the future development of WonderCMS.

Post by 1Seann »

Hello,

I'm wondering if the the lead developer rob is still lurking, my main question is- is WonderCMS still being worked on (slowly, or behind the scenes?) is development on hiatus?

The other two questions aren't to important, but.
What is the latest version? I currently confused myself here. On the site 0.6 Beta seems to be the latest but when I look at the GIT there is version 0.8.2-beta and the master branch. All have slight changes.

Will the website code be put on to the git or added to an organization git for WonderCMS so the community can help keep the site contents on the main page up to date?

Thanks.

Hello Sean.

Yes, yes he is. ;) Actually, (as a lot of you would be surprised) there is development behind the scenes - although it's on a monthly basis - which, I understand is pretty slow.

The main reason for this is because LM and I are almost constantly working on our full-time job, which in reality means, as said above, slow but existent progress.

The WonderCMS website gives users the 0.6. BETA version. GitHub should also display the 0.6. by default (master branch) + 0.8.2 as a future version (which is the version I talked about being worked on behind the scenes, but note: not nearly everything has been pushed to version 0.8.2 on GitHub).

So in short - 0.6. BETA is the current most used version, while us (the developers and lurkers) are preparing for version 0.8.2.
The 0.6 version on this website, and the version on GitHub should not be different, if this is the case - please let us know.

Leaving WonderCMS to the community in full was and still is in our plan from the start. It really just depends on when WonderCMS will come out of beta.
The website will be updated to download straight from GitHub, so it will make things less confusing.

NOTE: Your pull request has been approved. Thank you for your contribution.

I just tried WonderCMS, it is a nice little CMS, thanks !

Some remarks and suggestions:
* In the download wondercms-0.6-BETA.zip, the file "files/password" is missing.
No big problem, the solution can be found in the forum
* Also, no readme-file
This should also be fine, someone already created one on github, it just needs pulling...

* It might be useful to show the version-number somewhere,
e.g. in the metadata and/or after login.

* The docs should mention somewhere that the page-contents are expected to be html.
(as opposed to markdown / wiki-markup / BBCode, etc.)
* A few more example-pages would be nice, to show all the essential html-features.
E.g. H1,H2,H3, bold/italic/underline, blockquote, hr, list, table,
internal+external links, mailto, image. Maybe also font/textsize/color.

* Also, please include some small pictures (e.g. flag, logo, smily...) as well as a favicon,
and show how to use them in the example-pages.
Another theme/color-scheme (e.g. for a light and a dark theme)
right in the download would also be useful.

I put up some images in my testpage, and noticed that they
need to be placed in the top-directory of the cms.
That's no problem for just a few pictures, but will get messy fast...
Wouldn't it be better to place them in the files-folder ?

A big advantage of a CMS, over static webpages,
is the ability to edit and make changes from anywhere,
eg. a friend's computer, or an internet-cafe.

But the current version of WonderCMS doesn't allow to upload images yet,
so I think that feature would be the most useful to develop next.

Also, after logging in, a page showing status (e.g. the output from phpinfo),
and a listing of the files on the webserver would be useful.
